CHECK BODY CLEARANCE OF DRIVEN GEAR\n\nPush the driven gear to one side of the body. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance.\n\nStandard body clearance: 0.07 — 0.15 mm\n(0.0028 — 0.0059 in.)\nMaximum body clearance: 0.3 mm (0.012 in.)\n\nIf the body clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the drive gear, driven gear or pump body.\n\n2. CHECK TIP CLEARANCE OF BOTH GEARS\n\nMeasure between the gear teeth and the crescent-shaped part of the pump body.\n\nStandard tip clearance: 0.11 — 0.14 mm\n(0.0043 — 0.0055 in.)\nMaximum tip clearance: 0.3 mm (0.012 in.)\n\nIf the tip clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the drive gear, driven gear or pump body.\n\n3. CHECK SIDE CLEARANCE OF BOTH GEARS\n\nUsing a steel straightedge and a feeler gauge, measure the side clearance of both gears.\n\nStandard side clearance: 0.02 — 0.05 mm\n(0.0008 — 0.0020 in.)\nMaximum side clearance: 0.1 mm (0.004 in.)\n\nIf the side clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the drive gear, driven gear or pump body.\n\n4. INSPECT FRONT OIL SEAL\n\nCheck for wear, damage or cracks.\n\n5. IF NECESSARY, REPLACE FRONT OIL SEAL\n\n(a) Pry off the oil seal with a screwdriver.\n\n(b) Using SST and a hammer, install a new oil seal. The seal end should be flush with the outer edge of the pump body.\n\nSST 09350-20013
