INSPECT DISC, PALTE AND FLANGE\nCheck that the sliding surface of disc is not worn or burnt.\nIf the disc is worn or burnt, replace all discs.\nThen check that the sliding surfaces of plate and flange\nare not worn or burnt.\nIf necessary, replace them.\nNOTE: Do not allow the discs to dry out.\nPrepare new discs by soaking them at least two hours in\nATF.\n\nASSEMBLY OF FRONT CLUTCH\n(See page AT-63)\n\n1. INSTALL NEW O-RINGS ON PISTON\n\n2. INSTALL PISTON IN FRONT OF CLUTCH DRUM\nPress the piston into the housing with the cup side up\n(check ball down).\nBe careful not to damage the O-rings.\n\n3. INSTALL TWENTY PISTON RETURN SPRINGS, SPRING RE-\nTAINER AND SNAP RING IN PLACE\n\n4. COMPRESS RETURN SPRINGS AND INSTALL SNAP RING\nIN GROOVE\n(a) Place SST on the spring retainer, and compress the\nsprings with a shop press.\nSST 09350-20013 (09369-20040)\n(b) Install the snap ring with a screwdriver.\n\n5. INSTALL DISCS AND PLATES WITHOUT ASSEMBLING\nTHINNER SNAP RING\n(a) Do not assemble the thinner snap ring yet.\n(b) Using low-pressure compressed air, blow all excess\nATF from the discs. For measurement of the clutch\npack, install all plates and discs temporarily without\nthinner snap ring).\nCAUTION: High-pressure air will damage the discs.\nInstall in order: Plate-disc-plate-disc-plate-disc-plate (no\nsnap ring)-disc\n\n6. CHECK PISTON STROKE OF FRONT CLUTCH\n(a) Install the rear clutch hub and the outer snap ring.\n(b) Install the front clutch drum onto the rear clutch case.\nWith a dial indicator, measure the stroke applying and\nreleasing the compressed air (392 - 8 kgf/cm², 57 -\n114 psi or 392 - 785 kPa) as shown.\nStandard piston stroke: 1.40 - 2.24 mm\n(0.0551 - 0.0882 in.)\nIf not within specification, select a proper plate.\nNOTE: There are two different thickness.\nPlate thickness: 1.8 mm (0.071 in.)\n2.0 mm (0.079
