Take care not to damage the wires.\n• Do not use detergents or glass cleaners with abrasive ingredients.\n• When measuring voltage, wind a piece of tin foil around the tip of the negative probe and press the foil against the wire with your finger as shown.\n\nINSPECTION OF REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER WIRES\n\n1. INSPECT FOR WIRE BREAKAGE\n(a) Turn the defogger switch to ON.\n(b) Inspect the voltage at the center of each heat wire.\n\nVoltage                    Criteria\nApprox. 5V              Okay (No break in wire)\nApprox. 10V or 0V    Broken wire\n\nNOTE: If there is 10V, the wire is broken between the center of the wire and positive (+) end. If there is no voltage, the wire is broken between the center of the wire and ground.\n\n2. INSPECT FOR WIRE BREAKAGE POINT\n(a) Place the voltmeter positive (+) lead against the defogger positive (+) terminal.\n(b) Place the voltmeter negative (—) lead with the foil strip against the heat wire at the positive (+) terminal end and shift it toward the negative (—) terminal end.\n(c) The point where the voltmeter deflects from zero to several volts is the place where the heat wire is broken.\n\nNOTE: If the heat wire is not broken, the voltmeter will indicate 0V at the positive (+) end of the heat wire but gradually increase to about 12V as the meter probe is moved to the other end.\n\nREPAIR OF REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER WIRES\n\n1. CLEAN BROKEN WIRE TIPS WITH WHITE GASOLINE\n\n2. PLACE MASKING TAPE ALONG BOTH SIDES OF WIRE TO BE REPAIRED\n(a) Thoroughly mix the repair agent (Dupont paste No. 4817).\n(b) Using a fine tip brush, apply a small amount to the wire.\n(c) After a couple of minutes, remove the masking tape.\n(d) Allow to stand at least 24
