REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD BOLTS\n\nUsing SST, remove the fourteen head bolts gradually in two or three passes and in the numerical order shown.\nSST 09043-38100\nCAUTION: Head warpage or cracking could result from removing in incorrect order.\n\n20. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD\n\nLift the cylinder head from the dowels on the cylinder block and place the head on wooden blocks on a bench.\nIf the cylinder head is difficult to lift off, pry with a screw-driver between the head and block saliences.\nCAUTION: Be careful not to damage the cylinder head and block surfaces on the cylinder head gasket side.\n\n21. REMOVE EGR COOLER\n\nDISASSEMBLY OF CYLINDER HEAD\n(See page EM-18)\n\n1. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVERS\n\nRemove the two cylinder head covers by loosening the screws.\n\n2. REMOVE NO. 1 AND NO. 2 CAMSHAFT HOUSINGS WITH CAMSHAFT\n\nRemove No. 1 and No. 2 camshaft housings by loosening the nuts (front side) and bolts.\nCAUTION: Loosen each camshaft housing nut and bolt a little at a time in the sequence shown in the figure.\n\n3. REMOVE ROCKER ARMS AND LASH ADJUSTERS\n\nRemove the rocker arms and lash adjusters from the cylinder head.\nNOTE: Arrange the rocker arms and lash adjusters in order.\n\n4.
