REMOVE TIMING BELT CASE WITH WATER PUMP\n\nRemove the eight bolts and two nuts and remove the timing belt case and gaskets.\n\n13. REMOVE REAR OIL SEAL RETAINER\n\n14. REMOVE OIL PUMP DRIVE SHAFT\n\n(a) Remove the bolt holding the oil pump drive shaft.\n\n(b) While turning the oil pump drive shaft, slowly pull it out so as not to damage the bearing.\n\n15. REMOVE OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY\n\n(a) Remove the union bolt and nut and remove the oil pump outlet pipe.\n\n(b) Remove bolt holding the oil pump, and remove the oil pump assembly.\n\n16. MEASURE CONNECTING ROD THRUST CLEARANCE\n\nUsing a dial gauge, measure the thrust clearance.\nStandard clearance: 0.160 — 0.296 mm\n(0.0063 — 0.0117 in.)\nMaximum clearance: 0.3 mm (0.012 in.)\n\nIf clearance is greater than maximum, replace the connecting rod and/or crankshaft.\n\n17.
