MEASURE CRANKSHAFT THRUST CLEARANCE\nInstall a dial gauge and measure the crankshaft thrust clearance while prying the crankshaft back and forth with a screwdriver.\nStandard clearance: 0.05 — 0.26 mm\n(0.0020 — 0.0098 in.)\nMaximum clearance: 0.3 mm (0.012 in.)\nOversized thrust washer: O/S 0.125, 0.25\n\n20. REMOVE MAIN BEARING CAPS AND MEASURE OIL CLEARANCE\n(a) Gradually loosen and remove the bearing cap bolts in three passes and in the numerical order shown.\n\n(b) Using the removed bearing cap bolts, pry the bearing cap fore and aft, and remove it with the lower bearing and thrust washers (No. 4 journal only).\nNOTE:\n• Keep the lower bearing inserted with the cap.\n• Arrange the caps and lower thrust washers in correct order.\n(c) Lift off the crankshaft.\nNOTE: Keep the upper bearings and upper thrust washers (for the No. 4 journal only) inserted in the cylinder block.\n(d) Clean the journals and bearings.\n(e) Check the journals and bearings for pitting and scratches.\nIf the journal or bearing is damaged, grind or replace the crankshaft and replace the bearing.\n\n(f) Install the upper main bearing on the cylinder block and crankshaft.\n(g) Lay a strip of plastigage across the main
