INSPECT THROTTLE CABLE\n(a) Depress the accelerator pedal all the way and check that the throttle valve opens fully.\nHINT: If the valve does not open fully, adjust the accelerator cable.\n(b) Fully depress the accelerator pedal.\n(c) Measure the distance between the end of the boot and stopper on the cable.\nStandard distance: 0 — 1 mm [0 — 0.04 in.]\nIf the distance is not standard, adjust the cable by the adjusting nuts.\n\nOuter Cable\nRubber Boot\n0 — 1 mm\nCable Stopper\nAdjusting Nuts\nAT1721\n\n4. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION\nWhen shifting the shift lever from the N position to other positions, check that the lever can be shifted smoothly and accurately to each position and that the position indicator correctly indicates the position.\nIf the indicator is not aligned with the correct position, carry out the following adjustment procedures.\n(a) Loosen the nut on the shift lever.\n(b) Push the control shaft lever fully rearward.\n(c) Return the control shaft lever two notches to N position.\n(d) Set the shift lever to N position.\n(e) While holding the shift lever lightly toward the R position side, tighten the shift lever nut.\n(f) Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting the lever from the N to D position and reverse when shifting it to the R position.\n\nNeutral Position\n3\n1 2\nLoosen this nut.\nAT3194\n\n5. INSPECT NEUTRAL START SWITCH\nCheck that the engine can be started with the shift lever only in the N or P position, but not in other positions.\nIf not as stated above, carry out the following adjustment procedures.\n(a) Loosen the neutral start switch bolt and set the shift lever to the N position.\n(b) Align the groove and neutral basic line.\n(c) Hold in position and tighten the
