When performing the road test in item 23, do the following:\n• Drive the vehicle at approx. 30 mph (50 km/h) on a safe, level and dry road.\n• With the parking brake release button pushed in, pull on the lever with 9 kg (20 lb, 88 N) of force.\n• Drive the vehicle for approx. 1/4 mile (400 meters) in this condition.\n• Repeat this procedure 2 or 3 times.\n• Check parking lever travel.\nIf necessary, adjust the parking brake.\n\nCHASSIS\n\n16. INSPECT STEERING LINKAGE\n\n(a) Check the steering wheel freeplay.\n\nMaximum steering wheel freeplay: 30 mm (1.18 in.)\n\nWith the vehicle stopped and pointed straight ahead, rock the steering wheel gently back and forth with light finger pressure.\n\n(b) Check the steering linkage for looseness or damage.\n\nCheck that:\n• Steering linkage parts have no excessive play.\n• Dust seals and boots are not damaged.\n• Boot clamps are not loose.\n\n17. INSPECT SRS AIRBAG\n\nVisually inspect the steering wheel pad (airbag and inflater).\n• Use the diagnosis check to check if there are abnormalities.\n• Check that there are no cuts, cracks or noticeable color changes on the surface of the steering wheel pad or in the center groove of the pad.\n• Remove the steering wheel pad from the vehicle and check the wiring and steering wheel for damage and corrosion due to rusting, etc.\n\nIf necessary, replace the steering wheel pad.\n\nSee page SR-5\n• For removal and replacement of the steering wheel pad, see page SR-5 and be sure to perform the operation in the correct order.\n• Before disposing of the steering wheel pad, the airbag must first be deployed by using an SST.\n(See page AB-82)\n\n18.
