check for ab-\nnormal noise and vibration.\nHINT: The check for the cause of abnormal noise and vibra-\ntion must be made with extreme care as it could also be due\nto loss of balance in the propeller shaft, differential, torque\nconverter clutch, etc.\n\nD Position\n2\nFull Opening\n3\nO/D\nAT3070\n002497\n\n(d) Check kick–down operation.\nWhile running in the D position, 2nd, 3rd and O/D gears,\ncheck to see that the possible kick–down vehicle speed limits\nfor 3 → 2 and O/D → 3 kick–downs conform to those indi-\ncated on the automatic shift schedule.\n(See page AT1–96)\n(e) Check for abnormal shock slip at kick–down.\n\nOK\nO/D\nNG\nTE0035\n\n(f) Check the lock–up mechanism.\n(1) Drive in D position, O/D gear, at a steady speed (lock–up\n     ON) of about 172 km/h (107 mph).\n(2) Lightly depress the accelerator pedal and check that the\n     engine RPM does not change abruptly.\nIf there is big jump in the engine RPM there is no lock –up.\n\n3. 2 POSITION TEST (NORM PATTERN)\nShift into the 2 position and, while driving with the accelerator\npedal held constantly at the full throttle valve opening posi-\ntion, check on the following points:\n\n2 Position\nFull Open\n1\n2\nAT2812\n002499\n\n(a) Check up–shift operation.\nCheck to see that the 1 → 2 up–shift takes place and that the\nshift point conforms to the automatic shift schedule.\n(See page AT1–96)\nHINT: There is no O/D up–shift and lock–up in the 2 position.\n\n2 Position\n2\nEngine Braking?\nAT2811\n002500\n\n(b) Check engine braking.\nWhile running in the 2 position and 2nd gear, release the ac-\ncelerator pedal and check the engine braking
