INSPECT SPARK PLUGS\nNOTICE:\n♦ Never use a wire brush for cleaning.\n♦ Never attempt to adjust the electrode gap on used a spark plug.\n♦ Spark plugs should be replaced every 100,000 km (60,000 miles).\n(a) Remove the ignition coils assemblies.\n(See page IG-6 )\n\nMegger\n\nGround\nIG0147\n\n(b) Inspect the electrode.\nUsing a megger (insulation resistance meter), measure the insulation resistance.\nStandard correct insulation resistance:\n10 MΩ or more\nIf the resistance is less than specified, proceed to step (c).\nHINT:\nIf a megger is not available, the following simple method of inspection provides fairly accurate results.\n\nN00917\n\nSimple Method:\n♦ Quickly race the engine 5 times to 4,000 rpm.\n♦ Remove the spark plug.\n♦ Visually check the spark plug.\nIf the electrode is dry ... OK\nIf the electrode is wet ... Proceed to step (d).\n♦ Reinstall the spark plug.\n(c) Using a 16 mm plug wrench, remove the 6 spark plugs.\n(d) Visually check the spark plug for thread damage and insulator damage.\nIf abnormal, replace the spark plug.\nRecommended spark plug:\n\nDENSO made | PK20R11\nNGK made | BKR6EP11\n\n1.1mm\n\nIG0317 IG0151\nZ00032\n\n(e) Inspect the electrode gap.\nMaximum electrode gap for used spark plug:\n1.3 mm (0.051 in.)\nIf the gap is greater than maximum, replace the spark plug.\nCorrect electrode gap for new spark plug:\n1.1 mm (0.043 in.)\nNOTICE:\nIf adjusting the gap of a new spark plug, bend only the base of the ground electrode. Do not touch the tip.
