CHECK DRIVE PINION SHAFT RUNOUT\nMeasure the drive pinion shaft runout at a position 10 mm\n(0.39 in.) from the end of the shaft.\nMaximum runout:\n0.08 mm (0.0031 in.)\nIf the runout is greater than the maximum, replace the drive\npinion and/or ring gear.\n\n10 mm (0.39 in.)\nR07213\n\n2. REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER COVER\n(a) Remove the 8 bolts from the carrier cover.\n(b) Using a brass bar and hammer, separate the cover and\ncarrier.\n\nR07083\n\n3. CHECK RING GEAR RUNOUT\nMaximum runout:\n2JZ–GTE M/T\n0.08 mm (0.0031 in.)\nExcept 2JZ–GTE M/T\n0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)\nIf the runout is greater than the maximum, replace the drive\npinion, ring gear and/or differential case.\n\nR00028\n\n4. CHECK RING GEAR BACKLASH\nMeasure the backlash of the ring gear and drive pinion at 3\npoints (minimum) and check that the average value is within\nthe specification.\nBacklash (average value):\n0.08–0.13 mm (0.0031–0.0051 in.)\nNOTICE: The difference between the maximum and minimum\nmeasured values must be less than 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.).\nIf the backlash is not within the specification, adjust the ring\ngear backlash.\n(See page
