MEASURE DRIVE PINION PRELOAD\nUsing SST (or a 36 mm deep socket) and a torque wrench,\nmeasure the drive pinion preload using the backlash of the\ndrive pinion and ring gear.\nSST 09229–55010\nPreload (at start):\n2JZ–GTE M/T\n1.0–1.2 N·m (10–12 kgf·cm, 8.9–10.6 in.·lbf)\nExcept 2JZ–GTE M/T\n0.5–0.8 N·m (5–8 kgf·cm, 4.3–6.9 in.·lbf)\n\n6. CHECK TOTAL PRELOAD\nUsing SST (or a 36 mm deep socket) and a torque wrench,\nmeasure the total preload.\nSST 09229–55010\nTotal preload (at start):\nIn addition to drive pinion preload\n2JZ–GTE M/T\n0.4–0.6 N·m (4–6 kgf·cm, 3.4–5.2 in.·lbf)\nExcept 2JZ–GTE M/T\n0.5–0.8 N·m (5–8 kgf·cm, 4.3–6.9 in.·lbf)\nIf necessary, disassemble and inspect the differential\n\nR00025\n\n7. CONVENTIONAL TYPE ONLY:\nCHECK PINION GEAR BACKLASH\nMeasure the pinion gear backlash while holding one side\ngear toward the case.\nBacklash:\n0.05–0.20 mm (0.0020–0.0079 in.)\nIf the backlash is not within the specification, install the cor-\nrect thrust washer.\n(See page SA–70)\n\n8.
