DO HOLD–IN COIL OPEN CIRCUIT TEST\nUsing an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity between\nterminal 50 and the switch body.\nIf there is no continuity, replace the magnetic switch.\n\nTerminal 50\nTerminal C\nBattery\nP10952\n\nSTARTER PERFORMANCE TEST\nNOTICE: These tests must be performed with in 3 to 5 seconds\nto avoid burning out the coil.\n1. DO PULL–IN TEST\n(a) Disconnect the field coil lead wire from terminal C.\n(b) Connect the battery to the magnetic switch as shown.\nCheck that the pinion gear moves outward.\nIf the pinion gear does not move, replace the magnetic\nswitch.\n\nDisconnect\nTerminal C\nBattery\nP10953\n\n2. DO HOLD–IN TEST\nWhile connected as above with the pinion gear out, discon-\nnect the negative (–) lead from terminal C.\nCheck that the pinion gear remains out.\nIf the pinion gear returns inward, replace the magnetic switch.\n\nDisconnect\nBattery\nP10954\n\n3. INSPECT CLUTCH PINION GEAR RETURN\nDisconnect the negative (–) lead from the starter body. Check\nthat the pinion gear returns inward.\nIf the pinion gear does not return, replace the magnetic\nswitch.\n\nTerminal 30\nTerminal 50\nBattery\nAmmeter\nP10955\n\n4. DO NO–LOAD PERFORMANCE TEST\n(a) Connect the battery and ammeter to the starter as shown.\n(b) Check that the starter rotates smoothly and steadily with the\npinion gear moving out.
