Hood Feels Loose/Bouncy at Speed - Bumper Adjustment and Replacement

Body/InteriorbeginnerCommunity Verified
Problem

Owner was concerned that the hood latch on a 29-year-old MK3 Supra felt insecure and might release under hard driving, potentially flying open and damaging the windshield and roof. The hood appeared bouncy and unstable.

Hood feels loose or bouncy at speedHood appears unstable while drivingConcern about hood releasing under hard drivingWorn or missing rubber hood bumpers/stoppers
Root Cause

The rubber hood bumpers (stoppers) near the headlight motors and on the fenders behind the headlights were worn, degraded, or missing after 29 years. When these bumpers are set too low or missing, the hood loses proper contact points and bounces on the latch at speed, creating the impression that the latch is failing. The actual latch mechanism locks via mechanical interference and is very durable.
