Driver Door Won't Open - Wrong Lock Plate Screw Worked Loose

Body/InteriorintermediateOP Confirmed
Problem

Driver's side door would not open from either the interior or exterior handle. The latch mechanism partially engaged (interior lights would come on and door panels were no longer flush) but would not fully release to allow the door to open.

Root Cause

A previous owner or mechanic had installed the wrong screw to hold the door lock plate in place. Over time, the incorrect screw worked itself loose, which prevented the door latch from fully releasing.
