Distributor O-Ring Removal - Heated Screwdriver Crack Method

EnginebeginnerCommunity Verified
Problem

The distributor O-ring becomes rock hard and brittle over time, essentially turning into hard plastic. Removing it from the deep groove without scratching the aluminum sealing surface is extremely difficult, and conventional methods risk gouging the aluminum and creating a permanent leak even with a new seal installed.

Root Cause

Age and heat exposure cause the rubber O-ring to harden and become brittle, bonding tightly into the aluminum groove and making removal without surface damage very difficult
