Rear Hatch Water Leak - Back Glass Trim Clip and Spacer Resealing

Body/InteriorintermediateOP Confirmed
Problem

Water leaks into the rear hatch area and drains into the spare tire well. Water pools in the channel where the lower back glass molding sits and seeps through deteriorated foam gaskets on the trim clips and glass spacers that pass through the hatch body. Water pours out when the hatch is opened.

Root Cause

The lower back glass molding is held by clips and spacers that pass through holes in the hatch body, sealed only with small foam gaskets. After 20+ years these foam gaskets deteriorate and no longer seal. Water running down the back glass pools in the recessed channel where the lower molding sits and leaks through these unsealed holes (9 total: 3 white glass set spacers, 2 black caps, and additional clip holes) into the interior of the hatch.
