DIY Lamp Failure Box Eliminator Using Metra Radio Harness Connector

ElectricalbeginnerCommunity Verified
Problem

The lamp failure sensor box triggers a false warning light on the dashboard, commonly after replacing incandescent bulbs with LEDs. The sensor box is calibrated for incandescent current draw, so LEDs trigger a false bulb-out warning. In some cases, a defective sensor box can also disable all brake lights entirely.

Root Cause

The lamp failure sensor box is calibrated for the higher current draw of original incandescent bulbs. LED replacements draw significantly less current, causing the sensor to falsely detect a bulb failure. The sensor boxes can also become defective with age, sometimes cutting power to all brake lights when they detect a fault.
