After replacing the cylinder head gasket on a 7MGTE, the engine would start and run for a few seconds then cut out. Additionally, two rectangular electrical connectors from the engine harness had no apparent connection point, causing concern they were related to the running issue.
Vacuum hoses were not properly reconnected after the head gasket replacement. The unidentified electrical connectors were unrelated to the running problem — they were leftover connectors from an automatic transmission harness that had been swapped onto the manual transmission car at some point in the past. These connectors have no function on a manual transmission vehicle and can be safely left disconnected.
