W58 Transmission Removal for Clutch Job - Shifter Bolts, Starter Bolt, and Inspection Plate Tips

TransmissionadvancedOP Confirmed
Problem

Difficulty removing the W58 transmission for a clutch replacement on an 87 NA MK3 Supra, with multiple sticking points: couldn't find the shifter mounting bolts, couldn't reach the top starter bolt, and the transmission seemed stuck to the engine even after removing visible bell housing bolts.

Cannot locate or access the 4 shifter mounting bolts on W58 transmissionTop starter bolt inaccessible with standard sockets and ratchetTransmission will not separate from engine after removing 7 visible bell housing boltsInspection plate appears stuck and won't come off
Root Cause

Three common issues during W58 removal: (1) The shifter mounting bolts are hidden under the rubber boot around the shift lever, not visible without peeling it back. (2) The top starter bolt has very limited access from below. (3) Additional bolts behind the inspection plate must be removed, and two small brackets connected to the engine must be loosened to remove the inspection plate itself.
