Brittle/Cracked PCV and IACV Hoses on 7MGE - OEM and Substitute Replacements

EnginebeginnerCommunity Verified
Problem

The PCV hose and IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) air hoses on the 7MGE engine become brittle and crack with age, especially on cars that have sat for extended periods. The PCV hose (behind the alternator) and the larger curved IACV hose are both hard to find and have no direct aftermarket equivalents due to their unique routing and shapes.

Cracked or brittle PCV hose behind the alternatorCracked or brittle lower curved IACV air hoseRed coolant leaking from IACV hose area (hose carries coolant to prevent intake icing)Possible vacuum leaks causing rough idle or poor running
Root Cause

Age-related deterioration of OEM rubber hoses, particularly on vehicles that have sat for years. The tight spacing behind the alternator makes the PCV hose difficult to substitute, and the curved IACV hose has a unique shape that doesn't match standard aftermarket hoses.
