7MGTE Hall-Effect Cam/Crank Sensor Conversion on Stock Cams - Fornari Trigger Kit

ElectricaladvancedCommunity Verified
Problem

When converting a 7MGTE to an aftermarket ECU requiring hall-effect signals, owners need cam and crank position sensing but the stock CPS (Cam Position Sensor) is a VR (variable reluctance) type. Drilling or modifying stock cam gears for sensor magnets risks weakening the brittle cast alloy gears, and some owners have already sold their stock CPS unit, leaving no easy path to get the required timing signals.

No cam position signal for aftermarket ECUNo crank position signal compatible with hall-effect inputStock CPS unavailable or incompatible with aftermarket ECU requirementsNeed for sequential injection and/or direct ignition timing signals
Root Cause

The stock 7MGTE CPS provides a VR signal that many aftermarket ECUs cannot use directly. A hall-effect conversion is needed for the cam and crank position signals, but there is no factory provision for hall-effect sensors on the 7M engine.
