Intermittent Running/Dying - CPS Harness Plug Wire Detached

ElectricalintermediateCommunity Verified
Problem

Engine runs erratically and dies intermittently, regardless of temperature. The car would run fine and then suddenly die. Diagnostic codes would not display when jumping the diagnostic box.

Root Cause

The harness-side G- (ground) plug wire had detached inside the CPS connector and was only making intermittent contact by touching the back of the plug. The Ne+ wire above it was also heading in the same direction. The wires break where they enter the rubber weather grommet on the CPS plug, which hardens over time and stresses the connections. The plastic catches on the individual connector pins also tend to break when attempting removal.
