A340E No Gears After Engine Swap - Low Transmission Fluid

After swapping a 7MGTE engine, the A340E automatic transmission would not go into any gears. The owner believed the fluid level was adequate after adding ~1.5 quarts (based on drain-and-refill spec of 1.7 qt), but the transmission was actually nearly empty.
