Can't Fit Socket on 7M ARP Head Stud Nuts - Use 3/8 Drive 12-Point Deep Well Socket

EnginebeginnerCommunity Verified
Problem

When installing ARP head studs on a 7M engine, standard sockets are too large in outside diameter to fit onto the 14mm 12-point ARP nuts due to tight clearance between the studs and the cylinder head casting.

Socket will not fit onto ARP head stud nuts due to interference with cylinder head1/2 inch drive sockets and deep sockets have too large an outside diameter to clearClearance is even tighter with camshafts installed
Root Cause

1/2 inch drive sockets and standard deep sockets have a larger outside diameter than the tight clearance between the ARP head stud nuts and the 7M cylinder head casting allows. A 3/8 inch drive socket has a smaller outside diameter that fits in the available space.
