Speedometer Reads 10% High - Hidden Calibration Slider Adjustment

Body/InteriorbeginnerOP Confirmed
Problem

Speedometer reads approximately 10% higher than actual speed across the entire range, while the odometer remains accurate. Common on European/Canadian speedometers swapped into USDM cars, but can affect any MKIII speedo that has drifted out of calibration.

Speedometer reads ~10% higher than actual speed at all speeds (e.g., shows 66 MPH when actually doing 60 MPH)Error is proportional - percentage is consistent across the entire speed rangeOdometer remains accurate despite speedometer reading high
Root Cause

The speedometer's internal return spring tension is incorrectly set, causing the needle to deflect too far for a given cable speed. The speedometer uses a spinning cable as a generator producing current that creates a magnetic field, which deflects the needle against a return spring. If the spring is too loose, the needle reads high.
