Fuel Door Stuck / Won't Release - Stretched Cable and Latch Adjustment

Body/InteriorbeginnerCommunity Verified
Problem

The fuel filler door will not open when the interior release lever is pulled. This is a common issue on MKIII Supras caused by the fuel door release cable stretching over time, resulting in too much slack to properly disengage the latch.

Fuel door does not pop open when interior lever is pulledInterior lever feels loose or has excessive travelFuel door wiggles slightly when lever is pulled but does not releaseProblem worsens progressively over time
Root Cause

The fuel door release cable stretches over time, creating excessive slack so that pulling the interior lever no longer moves the latch enough to release the door. A secondary factor is the plastic latch pin being longer than necessary from the factory, requiring more cable travel than a stretched cable can provide. The spring/metal tab that pushes the door open once unlatched can also fail.
