Problem

Automatic transmission Supra would not start because the neutral safety switch was not receiving the correct signal from the shifter, despite the shifter being in park

Root Cause

The automatic shifter was out of alignment due to worn shifter bushings, causing the neutral safety switch on the transmission to not recognize the shifter was in Park. The mechanical linkage between the shifter and the NSS was not properly corresponding to the actual shifter position.
